WEST RUTLAND, VT. - The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center announce that there are limited openings in their five-day, hands on workshop “Sculpture in Stone” with Carlos Dorrien, July 12-16, 2004. Participants will explore and practice different approaches to working, carving and composing with marble and granite. Daily discussions and slide presentations dealing with the abstract in sculpture and its relationship to the environment will be the focus of this workshop. The idea or concept shapes the stone and the environment by means of the technical effort, which can best facilitate the makings of a sculpture.
Argentina-born Carlos Dorrien lives and works in Massachusetts and Vermont. He has been a faculty member in the Art Department of Wellesley College since 1984. Carlos has extensive gallery representation for his granite sculpture. His public commissions can be seen at several historic Boston buildings and elsewhere in New England.
Materials and tools for use in the workshop are provided. The workshop day begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 5:00 PM, with a two-hour lunch break. Dinner is served at 6:00 and is included in the tuition cost. Slide presentations, open to the public, are made following the meal at 7:00.
