Artist Talk: Alasdair Thomson, Scottish Artist-in-Residence
August 6, 2014 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 pm
The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center welcomes Alasdair Thomson, Scottish Artist in Residence during the 2014 summer season. Alasdair Thomson received his diploma in sculpture from the Senese Scuola Edile in Italy, after completing a degree in Art History from the University of Edinburgh.
Over the next two months, Alasdair will carve a wedding dress from a single block of Vermont marble donated by ABC Stone. Renowned designer Pnina Tornai has loaned the artist one of her original garments to serve as a model for the life-size sculpture.
In his most recent work The Identity Collection, Alasdair invites friends and family to donate items of clothing that he copies into marble. Alasdair seeks to capture the character of the individual in the representational fabric – even naming the sculptures after that individual.
A presentation of his art work is scheduled for 7 PM on Wednesdays, July 23rd and August 6th. For more information, please contact the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center at (802) 438-2097 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
