This two-day workshop leads participants through the creation of their own unique cooking/ serving spoon out of cherry, maple, mahogany or other hardwood. Starting with a conversation about design, and how it will be used, carvers will choose wood and begin carving and shaping their spoons. We will be using a band saw to cut out the initial shape and then a number of carving and hand tools including gouges, bent knives, spokeshaves and rasps to shape with. Carvers will become familiar with grain and the working properties of various woods The second day carvers will have a chance to add their own special flourish to the handle and finish their spoon to a fine polish. This workshop is for beginners with no previous woodcarving experience or advanced carvers who are hankering to carve a ladle, spoon or spatula.
