Working from a Model to Marble
May 30, 2014 - June 1, 2014| Register: $395
Anyone who can wield marble carving tools can sculpt directly: it is the most intuitive and straightforward way to shape stone, and requires no training. Yet it is not always the most efficient process, and risks an undesirable result. A reference model, on the other hand, can be greatly helpful in removing bulk, finding the correct forms and proportions, and even making enlargements.
This workshop will teach participants to use a model to assist with realizing a sculpture in marble. Participants will bring a model in a durable medium, such as plaster or fired clay, and will learn various methods to help them transport its essential character into marble. Different methodologies as well as enlargement will be discussed, although students will work 1:1 in this class. intermediate/ advanced
