SculptFest24- Call to Artists

SculptFest24- Call to Artists

The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center invites artists to submit proposals for SculptFest24, September 7 – October 20. The theme for this year’s outdoor exhibition is Coruscation, guest curated by Colin C Boyd, Director of the Johnson Memorial Building and Exhibition Gallery for Art and Architecture Studies at Middlebury College. Mr. Boyd, an installation and time-based media artist, was a participant in SculptFest2014.

The Coruscation theme calls for works to "illuminate" the grounds of the Carving Studio’s Sculptfest24 through light inspired sculpture and installation. The forested footpath provides opportunities for works ranging from large installations to small, intimate spaces, possibly utilizing natural or artificial light. Reflective, light-capturing, and light-emitting artworks devised as literal or metaphorical luminosity are welcome.

SculptFest24 will take place on the CSSC forested sculpture trail by the sculpture garden. The trail offers installation opportunities in both natural and landscaped surroundings as the impetus for this year’s outdoor exhibition. Selected artists will incorporate their work along the trail for viewing by the public. Artists should make the following considerations for the installation designs. No on-site electric service. Electronic devices should be low-maintenance and weather-proof, preferably to last at least 6 weeks. The outdoor installations will be in a forested area, please consider wildlife interaction and unpredictable weather events.

Artists are invited to submit proposals for sculpture, installation, video, or performance to be exhibited on the outdoor walking path of the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center’s historic grounds in West Rutland, VT. Applicants are encouraged to propose projects relating to the natural environment. Examples include but are not limited to work reflecting form, material, and texture to the natural landscape and its’ objects, materials and objects interacting with the natural environment, or projects incorporating the history of the landscape. The trail is accessible seven days a week during daylight hours; for those wishing to make an appointment, please contact the Carving Studio directly.
