West Rutland, VT – Join the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center for the opening of Darrell Petit and Sean Kernan’s exhibition, Light & Stone on October 3, 2025 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. There will be live music and light refreshments served.
In Light & Stone, photographer Sean Kernan captures the production and movement of sculptor Darrell Petit’s monumental granite sculptures over the course of more than twenty years. From quarrying to installation, these two artists take you on a journey between the two media, using the ephemeral nature of light and photography to document the sheer size and permanence of these granite sculptures.
Sean Kernan is a photographer, writer, filmmaker and teacher based in Stony Brook, Connecticut. He has produced multiple books, documentary films, and gallery exhibitions, as well as being published in The New York Times, Smithsonian Magazine, and more.
Darrell Petit is a monumental sculptor and stone carver from Montreal, Canada. His work has taken him around the globe, where he quarries, cuts, carves, torches and assembles natural stone into interdependently balanced situations, that are often with precarious contingency. His installations are found across New England.
