Over the last year, the CSSC served as an employment training site for Jack Tanner. He already possessed many stone working skills specific to our industry but he was enthusiastic to learn about the arts and the people who use our services.
Jack worked closely with Studio Manager Tom Kearns on many aspects of operations. Tom quickly discovered that Jack had a keen mechanical ability and enjoyed challenges. He could repair most tools and equipment while researching the best price for the part. The antique forklift that transported stone around the yard became his pet project. He fabricated parts to get through the 2017 season. With the acquisition of a new forklift this year, Jack was looking forward to restoring the old forklift for future use.
Jack was private but he proudly introduced his wife and two-year old daughter when they arrived from Viet Nam last spring. We are accepting donations in Jack’s memory to help his family as they move forward with their lives without him. Please consider a contribution to firstname.lastname@example.org or The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center, P.O. Box 495, West Rutland, VT 05777 until Friday, May 4th.
