Stone and Garden - Everyday Life with Stones: Aug. 11-15
During the 5-day workshop, participants will design and create a Tsukubai* while learning about the essence of stone garden practices, sensibilities, and aesthetics. and think about how you place it in your garden. Through a series of short but comprehensive lectures, students will discover traditional and contemporary Japanese garden practices and how garden design promotes a meditative quality of daily life, promoting well-being. Participants will carve their own Tsukubai, considering placement in their own garden spaces while developing an appreciation for the mind-garden connection.
*Tsukubai was traditionally a water basin with running water, placed in a garden near the entryway of a tea-ceremony room. Today, Tsukubai are used widely as accents for any garden, placed with or without running water.
