Carving in Alabaster, Limestone and Marble: July 13-17 (Session 1)

This workshop will focus on direct carving and three-dimensional thinking, finding the shape you imagine and carving it out. The class will teach the techniques and processes for carving a sculpture in Indiana Limestone, Marble or Alabaster, understanding the material and the many different tools to accomplish the work. We will be using hands tools and pneumatic tools. Participants will get experience with a variety of tools for shaping a piece of stone, learning the whole process from the basic chisels to the end process by using the subtraction to achieve the forms, how to polish and create the final textures. There will be class demonstrations in every class and discussions about techniques, images, and tools.

This course is intended for intermediate and advanced students. Individual instruction throughout the week will accommodate different needs.
