Direct Carving in Theory and Practice: July 28 - Aug. 1

Engage with stone directly as a jumping-off point to ignite imagination! This five-day workshop is an opportunity for carvers at all levels to explore their creativity by learning historical and anthropological approaches while interacting with the stone itself.  Gain a better understanding of personal artistic expression and the dynamic, symbolic, and spiritual potential of carving marble while learning the tools and techniques for shaping and finishing.

Participants will work through their imaginations, interpreting their ideas to translate to physical material, explore the marks and textures to support their concepts, and then further develop their pieces through abrasives and using finishing techniques while considering final touches, the base, and eventual resting place.
