Stone Carving From Architectural Elements to Fine Art: All Levels: August 13 - 16
In this class students will be introduced to the fundamentals of geometric stone carving as applied to architecture and fine art. Applicants will learn how the tools of the traditional carver are used to establish the forms common in fabrication. This includes, but not limited to the use of patterns, layouts, models, calipers, combination squares and pneumatic tools. These skills can also be applied to all types of sculpture. They broaden the options available to the commercial carver or the fine artist as applied to either traditional or contemporary sculptural work.
This class is appropriate to all levels of skill and the student is encouraged to bring their own concepts to explore in the way of drawings, models , or historic remnants to copy from, otherwise suggested options will be available.
Your instructor has labored as a commercial carver and building restorer for over a half century and is eager to pass these skills along to a new generation of those who desire to learn them.
