Letter Carving for Beginner & Intermediate Students: May 3 & 4

This “hands on” weekend workshop will introduce students to the ancient Roman techniques of V-cut lettering forms using hand chisels and mallets. No previous experience with drawing or carving is necessary. Students will learn to transfer their ideas on paper to stone, gain an intro to the proportions and composition of letter forms and practice traditional precise carving skills on a Vermont slate tablet.

Class demonstrations and one-on-one guidance will be emphasized, with reference material provided to each participant. Completing a simple inscription will be the goal of this workshop.

Intermediate carvers are welcome to bring a project to work on. Stone, tools and safety equipment are included in the workshop fee.
